Your Roots
A musical experience game where you can just relax and listen to some indie folk and rest your eyes. A game about the value of taking some time to relax and reflect, allowing your mind to recover. The intention of this project was to build a game as an accompanyment to music, so it wasn't meant to be too interactive or distract from the music, but visually accompany it in terms of mood and aesthetic. As you listen to music and relax, various planters around the room sprout plants that grow over the course of the song, repeated song playing / further relaxation, causes more vegetation to grow.

This project was tremendous fun to work on and a personal favourite of mine, regardless of how much my skills
might grow, I think this will always be special to me. So this game was mostly setting up the assets and environment
which took some time and iteration, I wanted to get the mood I had imagined in my head just right. The entire time
I spent working on this project I was listening to the album I was using in the game, which was a strategy I developed
to maintain a clear feel for the game, which I first did when working on Almost Recognizable.
One of my favourite parts of this project was getting into shaders, I found a cool tutorial for a rainy window
shader that I followed to achieve that effect, needless to say it was extremely informative and cool to learn.
Aside from the rain window I also made an outline shader to indicate when the boombox could be interacted with,
which was paired with a pulsing scaling affect, which I think looks good without breaking the stylle.
My one regret was that I didn't end up having time to finish the UI or really spend much time on it, because I was
putting a lot of time into getting the plant spawning and timing stuff working. Part of me wants to revisit and fix it
but I don't think that would be worth it, and it may ruin the authenticity of the game as a time capsule, and a reminder
of where I've been.
